Okay, so I had Prophecies, Nightfall, and Eye of the North installed on an older computer. We had some issues with it and it finally crashed. We got somebody to fix it, but he had to remove all but the core programs, so all my games and such were gone. We have a new computer now, and I was wondering if I can still use the old disks and registrey keys and install it on this one. Or would I have to buy the games again? Furthermore, this is a Vista (go ahead, laugh. my dad bought it) machine, and was wondering how well it runs. If it helps, my system stats are 5.9 on processor, memory and data transfer rate, and 5.2 on graphics.

You don't need your keys or discs to install the game. Just download the client from guildwars.com and you can login on your account anywhere.

you can use the same disks to install or download the client from the gw site and use the same account to log on...

Edit: don't forget to do the -image command

There is nothing wrong with Vista now. Stop listening to people that bash it. They are just the ones that are running it on a P3 with Limewire and all that crap.

the -image command is putting -image after the path to gw.exe (or game.exe, whatever it is) which downloads all the files in the .dat

I have been playing on a laptop with vista pretty much since vista came out. I have never really had any problems with Guild Wars at all

Please bear with me as I am not very computer literate. Is it necessary to do the -image thing, or would it just optimize the program to let it run quicker/more smoothly. I'm rather anxious to get back to playing again.

I just switched laptops too. I noticed that it takes forever for it to load up when i go to new areas. Ive been on for a few weeks but this still happens. It speeds up as you go along though, so if you plan on getting on and going straight to playing, you may need to warn the people you are with that you will take a while to load, or do what i did and just randomly zone places for an hour or so and that usually takes care of most of the time issues.

I had vista too. I have no idea why people complained about it. I treated that computer and op system like crap and it still worked great for me. And by crap i mean randomly crashing it when i got pissed about something online, which happened quite frequently. WIndows Seven now and i love it. I modified a few things so it works better for my type of use. I LOVE the floater picture screen things when you mouse over it. Its great for watching movies while your doing something else. It stops when you type though but comes up quick again right after. I can watch dvds and play gw without having to minimize ever few seconds to check up on chat.

ummm...not "necessary" but will keep you from loading 20k plus files just to go to your gh for the first time.

You don't have to use -image. The game content will download by itself as you go. But that means that you can have long load times every time you enter an area for the first time. You can begin playing as soon as you install the client (either from the disks or downloaded).
However, at any convenient time, you can use the -image command to download everything (that isn't already downloaded). This takes a long time and is usually done while you are at school/work/sleep, but is not necessary. If you can't or don't want to leave your computer on for a long time to do the -image, don't worry about it.
